Abstract:
The aim of the present work is to produce a subtitled version of the French short film “Faux contact”. As I wanted this work to be an exercise for a possible future work, I tried to recreate, as far as possible, the real work conditions of a professional subtitler. In the first chapter of this paper I tried to outline the context in which the subtitled version of this film could appear. In order to do so, I analysed several factors, such as the features of the film and the target audience. The second chapter presents the original film dialogue and the subtitled version I have carried out. This chapter also outlines the different steps that have been necessary to create the subtitles. The third and last chapter deals with the main translation problems and illustrate the strategies used to solve them.
